Subject: Support a Smoke-Free Port Arthur
Dear Councilmember Tiffany L. Hamilton,
As a resident of Port Arthur, I strongly urge you vote yes for the 100%comprehensive smoke-free ordinance
that prohibits smoking in all indoor workplaces, including restaurants and bars. The smoke-free ordinance will
protect all Port Arthur workers &residents from toxic exposure to secondhand smoke.
Every year, about 42,000 Americans die from preventable diseases caused by exposure to secondhand smoke.
Bartenders and wait staff who work in restaurants and bars that allow smoking are especially impacted&
should not have to put their health at risk to earn their paycheck.
Beaumont&46 other Texas cities have already passed comprehensive smoke-free ordinances that protects the
health of their workers and have proven that no harm to businesses occurs. Now is the time for Port Arthur to
pass a 100%comprehensive smoke-free ordinance to improve the quality of life for our community and make
Port Arthur a healthier place to live & work.
Please vote yes on a 100%comprehensive smoke-free ordinance and thank you for your consideration.
Regards,
Mary Reid
