RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT
ARTHUR, TEXAS, OPPOSING TEXAS SENATE BILL NUMBER
715.
WHEREAS, Senate Bill 715 was introduced on February 2, 2017, for
consideration during the 85th Texas Legislative Session; and
WHEREAS, this bill relates to municipal annexation and amends portions of
Chapter 43 of the Texas Local Government Code; and
WHEREAS, the language in this legislation makes significant changes to the
authority of a home rule municipality to annex and modifies the current annexation
procedures; and
WHEREAS, it is deemed in the best interests of the citizens of Port Arthur to
oppose the adoption of Senate Bill 715, as it would have an adverse impact upon the
City of Port Arthur and would erode the authority of home rule municipalities.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF PORT ARTHUR, TEXAS:
Section 1. That all of the above recitals are true and correct.
Section 2. That the City Council of the City of Port Arthur, Texas, is
OPPOSED to the passage of Senate Bill 715.
Section 3. That a copy of this Resolution be sent to the local Representatives
in the Texas House of Representatives and Members of the Texas Senate.
