HomeMy WebLinkAbout(3) STREET UPDATE NOVEMBER 20, 2018City of Port Arthur Streets Update Presentation Nov. 20, 2018 1 Types of Street Projects Reconstruction Projects – Projects that address the entire street structure plus drainage improvements, utility replacement or realignment and sidewalks. Remedial Projects – Projects that can extend the life of the streets by 3 to 5 years by reclaiming and resurfacing the streets for a fraction of the cost of reconstruction. This method will provide better streets for the citizens while providing the City time to fund their reconstruction projects in the future. Rehabilitation Projects – Streets that show extensive pavement distress but not to the point that reconstruction is necessary. 2 Reconstruction Street Projects The following Reconstruction Projects are in the Design Phase: 15th Street from Stillwell to Vicksburg 60th Street from West Port Arthur to Canal Willow Avenue from Maple to 60th Street Nashville Street from 7th to Proctor Sunken Court from Wilson to Twin City 8th Ave from 32nd Street to Dead End Carolina Avenue from Gulfway to Dead End -With an accelerated time line these projects are due for review and bid outs by December 2018 3 Status of Reconstruction Street Projects 4 Reconstruction Street Projects Summary The City will have two projects ready for the bid phase by the end of the year (15th Street and 8th Ave) The other 6 streets will follow shortly in Jan. 2019. The 14 left on the list are to be completed by City Crew The City has a new employee starting on Dec. 3 to operate the asphalt machine With the addition of the new employee, the Street Division will have a dedicated crew for laying down asphalt and will perform the work in-house. Four Streets were reclassified as Reconstruction because we wanted to improve the drainage system as well as the street pavement. One Street was reclassified as a Preventative Maintenance Street (Normal Patching and Sealing Work) In one street, we revised the limits to a *100 foot section One Street will be completed jointly with Jefferson County Precinct 2 * Repaired a 100 foot section of T.B. Ellison (Completed Nov. 12, 2018) 31 Status update of the PERMA-PATCH material The Street Division has applied the material on several places in the City and will regularly check on the locations for documentation purposes. 32 Perma-Patch in 6315 Hazel Ave. 33 Perma-Patch in 6315 Hazel Ave. 34 Conclusion The City will have 2 reconstruction streets ready to be reconstructed by the end of the year. The other 6 streets will follow shortly in Jan. 2019. These projects are scheduled to be completed in June 2019 The City has 19 remedial streets. Five will be completed in 2019 by contractors. The remaining 14 will be accomplished by City Crew by the end of October 2019. The City had 17 rehabilitation projects. 10 have been completed and five have been reclassified. One project will be completed jointly with Jefferson County Precinct 2. And for another, we revised the limits of the project. The Total Cost to accomplish these projects will be $14.3 Million dollars by the end of Oct. 2019 35 Questions? 36
