Summit—August 10, 2019 (Requested by Mayor Bartie)
Introduction:
The intent of this Agenda Item is to request the City Council's approval of P.R. No. 20980 to
host the "Mayor Thurman "Bill" Bartie and City Council Port Arthur Youth Summit" on
August 10, 2019, at the City of Port Arthur's Amos J. Evans Multipurpose and Recreation
Center, 1308 9th Avenue, Port Arthur, Texas.
Background:
In an effort to inform the youth in the community on several topics that they may be faced with,
the City of Port Arthur desires to host a Youth Summit. The summit will address topics such as
hygiene,financial management and effective conflict resolution.The Youth Summit will be held
August 10, 2019, at the City of Port Arthur's Amos J. Evans Multipurpose and Recreation
Center.

Recommendation:
It is recommended that the City Council approve P.R. No. 20980 to host the Mayor Thurman
Bill Bartie and City Council Port Arthur Youth Summit on August 10,2019, at the City of Port
Arthur's Amos J. Evans Multipurpose and Recreation Center, 1308 9th Avenue, Port Arthur,
Texas.

RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION SPONSORING THE "MAYOR THURMAN "BILL"
BARTIE AND CITY COUNCIL PORT ARTHUR YOUTH SUMMIT" TO
BE HELD AUGUST 10,2019 (REQUESTED BY MAYOR BARTIE)
WHEREAS, on August 10, 2019, the City of Port Arthur wishes to host a Youth Summit .
at the City of Port Arthur's Recreation Center; and,
WHEREAS,this will be a one-day summit for young people in grades 8th -12th; and,
WHEREAS, the summit will be held for the benefit of the youth in order to address
various topics including but not limited to: hygiene, financial management, and effective conflict
resolution with peers and authority figures; and,
WHEREAS, representatives from local law enforcement agencies, health agencies and
financial institutions will provide presentations on the various topics;
WHEREAS, the City Council deems it in the best interest of the citizens of Port Arthur
to support the Youth Summit; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT
ARTHUR, TEXAS:
Section 1. That the facts and opinions in the preamble are true and correct.
Section 2. That the City Council hereby approves the sponsorship of the "The Mayor
Thurman "Bill" Bartie and City Council Port Arthur Youth Summit" to be held on August 10,
2019, by providing the Recreation Center and staff support.
Section 3. That a copy of the caption of this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes
of the City Council.
