A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF A DONATION OF A MONUMENT TO THE CITY OF PORT ARTHUR FROM THE PORT ACRES PUBLIC ACTION GROUP (REQUESTED BY MAYOR PRO TEM DOUCET) WHEREAS, the Port Arthur Independent School District through the Superintendent of Schools has authorized the monument honoring Belinda Baca currently located at Port Acres Elementary School to be moved by either by the Port Acres Public Action Group or the City of Port Arthur and to be re-located to Eagles Park (see Exhibit "A"); and WHEREAS, the monument is the school sign of Dick Dowling Elementary School and is in the memory of Belinda Baca who is the granddaughter of Johnnie Alfred (see pictures attached as Exhibit "B"); and WHEREAS, the Port Acres Public Action Group wishes to donate the monument to the City of Port Arthur and relocate the same to Eagles Park; and WHEREAS, this donation to the City of Port Arthur facilitates a public purpose that will be beneficial to the citizens of Port Arthur in compliance with §51.076(a) of the Texas Local Government Code and the Charter of the City of Port Arthur; and NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ARTHUR, TEXAS: Section 1. That the facts and opinions in the preamble are true and correct. S.pr21068 Section 2. That the City Council authorizes the acceptance of the donation, which will be utilized by the City of Port Arthur exclusively for public purposes in compliance with the §51.076(a) of the Texas Local Government Code and the City Charter. Section 3. That a copy of the caption of this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the City Council.
