RE: PR 21102—Accept a donation from PAIG & PAWS—K-9 vest& collars
Introduction:
The intent of this Agenda Item is for the City Council's acknowledgement of a donation of
four (4) ballistic K-9 vest and four(4) K-9 collars from the Port Arthur Industrial Group and
PAWS of Beaumont to the Police Department.
Background:
The Port Arthur Police Department yields a Police K-9 Program that includes trained patrol
dogs that deploy daily along with their assigned police officer handlers. Safeguarding the lives
of these specially trained canine patrol dogs by providing the dogs with ballistic protection and
distinct collars is in the best interest of the citizens of Port Arthur. The Port Arthur Industrial
Group, a strong supporter of the City of Port Arthur, recognizes the valuable support the Police
K-9 program provides the police department and wishes to partner with PAWS of Beaumont in
donating four(4)ballistic vests and four (4) K-9 collars to the program.
Budget Impact:
There is no budgetary impact in accepting this donation.
Recommendation:
It is recommended that City Council approve the Police Department to acknowledge the
donation of four(4)ballistic K-9 vest and four(4) K-9 collars from the Port Arthur Industrial
Group and PAWS of Beaumont, as discussed and/or outline above.

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF PORT ARTHUR
POLICE DEPARTMENT TO ACCEPT A DONATION OF FOUR
BALLISTIC K-9 VESTS AND FOUR K-9 COLLARS FROM THE
PORT ARTHUR INDUSTRIAL GROUP AND PAWS OF BEAUMONT
WHEREAS, the Port Arthur Police Department yields a
Police K-9 program that includes trained patrol dogs that
deploy daily along with their assigned police officer
handlers; and
WHEREAS, these patrol dogs complete lengthy training for
drug detection, tracking missing persons and fleeing suspects ,
and protecting their human partners from attack; and
WHEREAS, safeguarding the lives of these canine patrol
dogs by providing the dogs with ballistic protection and
distinct collars is in the best interest of the citizens of
Port Arthur; and
WHEREAS, the Port Arthur Industrial Group (PAIG) has
proven to be a strong supporter of the City of Port Arthur;
and
WHEREAS, PAIG recognizes the valuable support the Police
K-9 program provides the police department and has partnered
with PAWS of Beaumont in donating four ballistic vests and
four K-9 collars to the program.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF PORT ARTHUR:
Section 1. That the facts and opinions in the preamble
are true and correct .
Section 2 . That the City Council authorizes the Police
Department to accept the donation of four ballistic K-9 vests
and four collars from the Port Arthur Industrial Group and
PAWS of Beaumont .
Section 3 . That a copy of the Resolution shall be spread
upon the Minutes of the City Council .

Dear Chief Duriso,
The Port Arthur Industrial Group (PAIG) and its Community Advisory Group's mission is to improve the quality of life and
health of Port Arthur residents by enhancing educational, employment and health care opportunities, improving the
environment and by supporting community improvements and economic development.
Over the past 18 years, Port Arthur Industrial Group has proven to be a strong supporter of the Port Arthur community
though the Port Arthur Independent School District,job training and placement activities, community improvements,
environmental initiatives and first responders.
The Port Arthur Industrial Group would like to donate four ballistic dog vests and four collars to the K9s of the Port
Arthur Police Department. The trained K9s offer valuable support to the Port Arthur Police Department and the vests
provide protection for the dogs. The specialized gear will be purchased by PAWS of Beaumont.

volunteers who are passionate about animal rescue.We desire to share that passion with the public by encouraging the
adoption of rescued animals, and by providing the resources necessary to ensure that each adoption can be a successful,
lasting relationship between dog and family. PAWS of Beaumont operates with no paid staff and no donation goes to
anything other than the dogs and their welfare.
