Sokolow, City Attorney ~z~ ~'~~' Val Tizeno, First Assistant City Attorney Albert Thigpen, Assistant Director of Human Resources and Director of Parks and Recreation Yoshi Alexander, Director of the Port Arthur Date: April 5, 2007 Subject: P.R. 14661 - Council Meeting April 8, 2008 Attached is P. R. No. 14661 as it pertains to a Spring Youth Empowerment/Health and Wellness Conference to be facilitated by Dr. Ian Smith, Retired Lt. Colonel Consuelo Castillo Kickbusch, and Lynette M. Elizalde-Robinson. The legal department has worked in conjunction with the City's Health Department, and Parks and Recreation to have a series of workshops for at-risk youth during the week of the Health and wellness Conference. The Health and Wellness Conference will be held on April 25, 2008 at 12:00 p.m. Due to the success of Rev. Rivers' presentation, the Principal of the 9th grade Center has requested that we have another conference at their campus. April 23 - 25th are the suggested dates because they will not conflict with the TAKS test. We have worked to combine the Youth Conference with the Health and Wellness Conference. This will allow an overwhelming number of children to participate in the Health and Wellness Conference. The proposed speakers include Lynette M. Elizalde- Robinson, Retired Lt. Colonel Consuelo Castillo Kickbusch, and Dr. Ian Smith. The students will receive at the conference a wide range of written materials, conference bags, buttons, etc. as part of their participation. This event will impact over 1000 Port Arthur students.' I have attached the biographical information of the keynote speakers for your review. This event will benefit our youth. zpr14661_memo The contract for Dr. Smith and Retired Lt. Colonel Consuelo Castillo Kickbusch are attached.
