PAGE 1 of 2 RECOMMENDATION We recommend the City Council award the bid for Self-priming Sewage Pumps to: 1 / Service Pump & Compressor, of Beaumont, Texas, and 2) Pumps & Equipment of Texas, of Houston, Texas in the amounts of $6,700 and $6,307, respectively. BACKGROUND The first pump (CML-P1) will replace an existing vertical non-clog unit in the Old Main Line Lift Station. Currently, the Old Main Line LS is used only during periods of high flow, which causes the sewage in the mile-long 30" force main to become septic and disruptive to the treatment works. This pump will operate as a lead pumping unit in an effort to prevent this problem. The second pump (SRP-403) will replace the smallest of three sludge pumps in the Return Sludge Pump Station at the Port Acres WWTP. Ten (10) bid packets were sent out and four (4) bids were received on October 9, 2002. Bidd.e_? This is our second use of the Pioneer Pump unit (which is a copy of the Gorman Rupp T-series design, the City Standard for self-priming pumps). Currently, the first trial u nit purchased last year seems to be performing on a par with the G-R pumps. This will be our first evaluation of the Gresco pump, another Gorman Rupp T-Series copy. PAGE 2 of 2 BUDGET/FISCAL EFFECT Funds for these items are appropriated ih the current operating budget accounts no. 410-1255-532.92 and 410-1256-532.92 at $6,500 and $8,000, respectively, leaving a total positive balance of $1,493. STAFFING/EMPLOYEE EFFECT City staff will install and operate these pumps, SUMMARY The bids from Service Pump & Compressor and Pumps & Equipment of Texas are the lowest and best bids meeting the requirements of the specifications for this equipment, and are therefore recommended for approval in the amount of $6,700 and $6,307, respectively.
