Re: $25,000 Donation to the City of Port Arthur
RECOMMENDATION:
I recommend that the City Council adopt Proposed Resolution # 14683, authorizing the
City of Port Arthur to accept a donation of tv<~enty five thousand dollars ($25,000) to be
used by the Police Department to purchase a trailer suitable for use as a portable Amateur
Radio Emergency Communications Vehicle; and for the purchase of the accessories and
equipment necessary to make it suitable for this purpose. This trailer will be used for
Emergency Management operations and for public service events. .
BACKGROUND:
Kathleen Jackson of Exxon/Mobil Corporation heard of the City of Port Arthur's need for
a portable Amateur Radio Eiergency Communications Vehicle. In a continuing effort to
play a role in our community, Exxon/Mobil Corporation wishes to provide this donation
to purchase a trailer for use as a portable Amateur Radio Emergency Communications
Vehicle, and for the purchase of the accessories and equipment necessary to make it
suitable for this purpose.
BUDGET/FISCAL EFFECT:
Acceptance of this $25,000 donation will be beneficial to the City of Port Arthur
STAFF/EMPLOYEE EFFECT:
Acceptance of this $25,000 donation will have no effect on staffing levels.
SUMMARY:
I recommend that the City Council adopt Proposed Resolution #14683, authorizing the

Communications Vehicle, and for the purchase of the accessories and equipment

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF PORT ARTHUR
TO ACCEPT A DONATION OF $25,000 FROM EXXON/MOBIL
CORPORATION FOR THE PURCHASE AND CREATION OF AN
AMATEUR RADIO EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS
TRAILER FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT
WHEREAS, Kathleen Jackson. on behalf ofExxon/Mobil Corporation, wishes to
donate Twenty-Five Thousand Dollars ($25,000) to the Port Arthur Police Department
for the purchase of a trailer suitable for use as a portable Amateur Radio Emergency
Communications Vehicle and for the purchase of the accessories and equipment to make
it suitable for this purpose, as delineated in Exhibit "A" attached hereto; and
WHEREAS, it is deemed in the best interests of the citizens to accept this
donation from Exxon/Mobil Corporation to be used by the City of Port Arthur Police
Department to purchase and build an Amateur Radio Emergency Communications Trailer
to support Emergency Management operations and public service events.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF PORT ARTHUR:
Section I. That the facts and opinions in the preamble are true and correct.
Section 2. That the City Council does hereby accept the Twenty-Five
Thousand Dollars ($25,000) from ExxonMobil on behalf of the City of Port Arthur Police
Department, as delineated in Exhibit "A" attached hereto, for the purchase and
construction of an Amateur Radio Emergency, Communications Vehicle to support

Emergency Management operations and public service events and hereby thanks
Exxon/Mobil Corporation for.their donation. '
Section 3. That a copy of the caption of this resolution be spread upon the
Minutes of the City Council.

Arthur, Texas, by the following vote:
