Lynette M. Eliralde•Robinson is a famih• violence
prevention advocate, recogni:.ed by Oprah as the first
"Parent of the VI'eek," an inspirational speaker who
tragically lost her eldest son to gun violence and
dedicated her Gfe to making communities and schools
safe for our children. She will conduct small group
sessions for the youth and an important afterschool
presentation for parents.

Dr. Ian Smith is the former medical correspondent for
NBC News network and for News Channel 4 where
he filed reports for NBC's Nightly News and the
Today Show, as well as wNBC's various news
broadcasts. Dr. Ian provides his expertise as a medical
contributor to ABC's The View, Men's Health
Magazine, and VH1's popular show, Celebrity Fit
Club. Smith is also well known for his work with the
"50 Million Pound Challenge" an endeavor to
promote healthier Gves and more nutritious diets. He
has a compelling program for our young people which
will inspire them to make good decisions regarding
every aspect of their Gves. He will address our youth at
9:00 a.m. at the 9° Grade Center and at 12:00
noon at the City of Port Arthur's Health and wellness
Conference held at the Port Mthut Civic Center.

A RESOLIITION AS IT ,PERTAINS TO THE SPRING
YOIITH EMPOWERMENT WORKSHOP BREAKOIIT SESSIONS
TO SE FACILITATED BY LYNETTE EI,IZANDE ROBINSON
(ACCOIINT NO. 132-1021-514.5.6-00, PROJBCT NO.
SSBG02)
WHEREAS, per Resolutions 06-514 and 07-474, the South East
Texas Regional Planning Commission awarded the City of Port Arthur
a. grant for various services including the provision of programs
for At-Risk Youth; and
WHEREAS, _ the Community Prosecution Program provides
Counseling,~Prevention and `Intervention Services; and
WHEREAS, on April 23'-25, 2008, the program will conduct a
three-.day workshop at the Memorial'9`h Grade Campus; and ,
a
WHEREAS, the program will consist of eight (8) breakout
sessions, which will allow the facilitator, Lynette Robinson, to
work with ally of the 9`h grade students in small group settings; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Robinson will also conduct a workshop for parents
entitled, "Children Need a Supportive Stage for Success"; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 08-128, the amount
authorized for the facilitator was $1,000; however, due to ,the
increased participation of Ms. Robinson, the City Council deems it
in the best interest of the citizens of Port Arthur to.support the

program facilitated by Ms. Robinson in the amount of $2,000 plus
lodging expenses; and
WHEREAS, the workshop will be held for the benefit of at risk
youth and their parents/guardians.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED.BY THE CITY COIINCIL OF THE CITY
OF PORT'ARTHD'R, TEBAS:
Section 1. That the facts'and opinions in the preamble are
true and correct.
Section 2. That the City Council herein authorizes the
City Attorney or his designee to execute an agreement in
substantially the same form as Exhibit "A" with Lynette Elizande-
Robinson to facilitate said workshop in the amount of $2,000 plus
lodging expenses.
Section 3. That a copy of .the caption .of this Resolution
be spread upon the Minutes of the City Council.
