SUBJECT: Results of Floating Holiday Survey
The Floating Holiday Survey conducted recently has been
completed. Survey requests were distributed to all departments.
Twenty-five (25) departmental surveys were completed and
returned, 190 employees preferred Thursday, December 24, 2020
as the Floating Holiday, and 58 employees chose Monday,
December 28, 2020.
Upon your approval, please initial the attached CAM designating
Thursday, December 24, 2020 as the Floating Holiday, sign the
Proposed Ordinance No. 6916 and return to me.

SUBJECT: Designation of 12/24/20 as the City's Floating Holiday, P.O. No. 6916
COMMENTS
Recommendation:
I recommend that the City Council adopt Proposed Ordinance No. 6916, which
designates Thursday, December 24, 2020 as the official Floating Holiday for City
employees for the 2020 calendar year.
Background:
In accordance with the City's Personnel Policy (Section 17-79 Holidays), employees
are typically given eleven (11) official holidays each year, one which is a floating
holiday to be designated annually by the City Council. Approval of this
recommendation satisfies the referenced policy.
A survey of all City departments was conducted and the majority of the employees
who voted preferred Thursday, December 24, 2020 to be designated as the official
Floating Holiday. Attached is a copy of the survey questionnaire.
Budgetary/Fiscal Effect:
None.
Staffing/Employee Effect:
None.
Summary:
I recommend that the City Council adopt Proposed Ordinance No. 6916 designating
Thursday, December 24, 2020 as the official Floating Holiday for City employees for
the 2020 calendar year.

ORDINANCE NO.
AN ORDINANCE DESIGNATING THURSDAY,
DECEMBER 24, 2020, AS A LEGAL HOLIDAY
WHEREAS, the schedule of legal holidays for City employees includes a floating
holiday to be designated by the City Council; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council has deemed it would be fitting and proper to
designate Thursday, December 24, 2020 as a legal holiday for City employees; now,
therefore,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT
ARTHUR:
Section 1. That the City Council does hereby approve and designate Thursday,
December 24, 2020 as a legal holiday for City employees.
Section 2. That being an Ordinance not requiring publication it shall become
effective upon its passage.
Section 3. That a copy of the caption of this ordinance be spread upon the
Minutes of the City Council.
