This equipment will be maintained in our Warehouse inventory and charged to the appropriate account when used; #410-1253-532.35-00 for routine replacement meters/equipment, #414-1621-532.85-00 for new water taps, #410-1251- 532.92-00 for replacement/additional hand-held & transceiver units, or #427-1626-532.85-00, Project #427501 for the meter change-out program. BACKGROUND Our last meter change-out program was completed in 1983, leaving us with the vast majority of our water meters at or beyond their accurate service life. For the last three years, we have been replacing certain hard to read residential and many commercial meters with radio-read, AMR meters, and hope to expand this replacement program to all accounts. The City has standardized on the Badger Orion radio-read system, which can be easily adapted to our existing Sensus meters in the larger sizes. This year, we added several line items to the specifications to give us the flexibility to mix and match the metering systems that best suit our needs. For example, instead of replacing the entire meter, many large commercial meters can be retrofitted with new meter drop assemblies at a substantial cost savings. Also, these new assemblies will come with electronic registers that permit them to be used with the newAWIR system. Often, large meter vaults are inaccessibleforvariousreasons, making AMR transmitters invaluable in getting readings every month, independent of the weather. We are also installing strainers on turbine/turbo meters. This award establishes unit prices for various meters and associated equipment. Nine (9) bid packets were sent out and two (2) bids were received on May 7, 2008. Badger Meter submitted a "No Bid" for all items, opting to sell through their distributor.
