Comeaux, P.E., Director of Public Works SUBJECT' P.R. #14723 -Streets Bond Projects DATE May 14, 2008 RECOMMENDATION: I recommend that the City Council approve Proposed Resolution No. 14723, authorizing the projects for the $3,000,000 streets bond issue. BACKGROUND: Last year, the citizens of Port Arthur authorized the sale of bonds for streets projects totaling $3,000,000. The Public Works Department has presented a list of recommended projects to the City Manager and City Council. In accordance with the Council's wishes, the projects were revised to include two additional alternate projects -the North and South Levee Roads on Pleasure Island. BUDGETARY/FISCAL EFFECT: ' ' Funding is in the amount of $1,600,000 is available this year from the sale of the authorized bonds. The remaining $1,400,000 will be sold next January. WHEREAS, the citizens of Port Arthur elected for the City of Port Arthur to issue bonds for streets improvement,projects in the amount of $3,000,000; and, WHEREAS, a preliminary report on the projects recommended by the Public Works Department has been discussed-with the City Council; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCYL OF THE CITY OF PORT ARTHUR: , THAT, the facts and opinions in the preamble are true and correct; and; THAT, the recommended streets projects revised as discussed with the City Y Council as shown as Exhibit"'A" are hereby approved; and, THAT, the City staff and Public Works Department are hereby instructed to take all steps necessary to effect these recommendations in a timely and cost-effective manner; and, THAT, a copy of the caption of this Resolution. be spread upon the Minutes of • the City Council. f P.R. The recommended projects are as follows: Procter Street from 9`h Avenue to Stadium Road ~ $287,500 (milling, concrete repair, HMAC) Stadium Road from Lewis Drive to the south dead end $138,000 (milling, concrete repair, HMAC) S. 1~` Avenue from the north dead end to the Texas Bayou bridge $475,200 (HMAC for industrial traffic) Jade Avenue from ST 73 to FM 365 $546,350 • (milling and HMAC) Lewis Drive from Stadium Road to 9`" Avenue $312,100 (milling, concrete repair, HMAC) ' . Jimmy Johnson Boulevard from US 69 to SH 347 ~ $210,000 (concrete repairs) Gilham Circle $145,000 (milling, concrete repair, HMAC).
