RE: PR 21752 Replace Library's Boiler Piping Introduction: The intent of this Agenda Item is to seek the City Council's approval for the City Manager to replace the Library's boiler piping due to a leak with Industrial and Commercial Mechanical of Beaumont, Texas, through the Texas BuyBoard Contract No. 558-18, in the amount of $31,632.00. Funds are available in account 001-1403-551.32-00. Background: The Library's boiler is not functioning due to a leak in the boiler's piping of that connects to the mechanical room. In 1980 the Library's boiler piping was constructed at the same time the building was, therefore, the boiler piping is at least 40 years old. After the boiler piping is replaced we will be able to have heat in our building and be able to better regulate the humidity which is vital when keeping our collection safe. Budget Impact: Funds in the amount of$31,632.00 will be used from account 001-1403-551.32-00. Recommendation: It is recommended that City Council approve the City Manager to replace the Library's boiler piping with Industrial and Commercial Mechanical. WHEREAS, the Library's boiler is not functioning due to a leak in the boiler's piping that connects to the mechanical room; and, WHEREAS,the Library' boiler piping is more than 40 years old; and, WHEREAS, our current boiler was replaced after Hurricane Harvey and still under a five (5) year warranty; and WHEREAS,the library contacted eight(8) companies and only two (2) could complete the work outlined above which their bids are attached in Exhibit"A"; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Chapter 271, Subchapter D, of the Local Government Code, the City may participate in cooperative purchasing programs established by the State Facilities Commission for the purchase prices established through purchase contracts of the Commission; and, WHEREAS,the Library has reviewed the Texas BuyBoard Contract No. 558-18 and determined that Industrial and Commercial Mechanical of Beaumont, Texas, is best qualified to complete the scope of work properly attributable to past satisfactory mechanical work completed at the Library; now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ARTHUR: THAT,the facts and opinions in the preamble are true and correct.
