A RESOLUTION REQUESTING FEMA TO CONTINUE TO
ASSIST THE EVACUEES AND ELIGIBLE CITIZENS
WITH EVACUATION COSTS
WHEREAS, on September 11, 2008, the City of Port Arthur was placed under a
mandatory evacuation Order as a result of Hurricane Ike; and
WHEREAS, as a result of the damages to the City, the citizens of Port Arthur
were required to incur substantial evacuation costs during the mandatory evacuation
period; and
WHEREAS, the homes of many citizens have been significantly damaged or
destroyed and will require them to incur additional costs for food, clothing, and shelter;
and
WHEREAS, the Federal Emergency Management Administration has provided
evacuees with financial assistance as a result of Hurricane Ike; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Port Arthur deems it in the best
interest of the citizens of Port Arthur to request that the Federal Emergency Management
Administration continue to assist the evacuees and eligible citizens with the evacuation
costs that they have incurred.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF PORT ARTHUR:
Section 1: That the facts and opinions in the preamble are true and correct.
Section 2: That the City Council of the City of Port Arthur requests that the
Federal Emergency Management Administration continue to assist the evacuees and.
eligible citizens from the City with the evacuation costs that they have incurred and with
assistance in repairing or reconstructing the homes that have been damaged as a result of
Hurricane Ike.
Section 3: That the Acting City Secretary of the City of Port Arthur provide a
copy of this Resolution to the Federal Emergency Management Administration as well as
all of the members of Congress that represent the City of Port Arthur and Jefferson
County.
Section 4: That a copy of the caption of this Resolution be spread upon
Minutes of the City Council.
READ, ADOPTED AND APPROVED on this day of September, A.D.,
2008, at a Council Meeting of the City Council of the City of Port Arthur, Texas, by the
following vote:
