Home My WebLink AboutB.NEW 6-8 CY DUMP TRUCK CITY OF PORT ARTHUR, TEXAS MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL COMMUNICATIONS 01/07/03 1801-531.93-04 truck for the Public Works-Drainage Division RECOMMENDATIONS: We recommend that the City Council award the bid for one (1) new 6-8 cubic yard dump truck to Philpott Motors of Nederland, Texas in the amount of $51,393. The vehicle is for the Public Works-Drainage Division and funds are budgeted for such in the FY 2003 Equipment Replacement Fund No. 625, Account No. 625-1801-531.93-04. BACKGROUND: The new vehicle is a replacement for City Equipment No. 925 which is a 1992 Ford Dump Truck with 74,574 miles as of this date. Bids were advertised on December 8, 2002, and December 15, 2002 with 18 packets being sent out to or picked up by prospective vendors. A list of those prospective vendors is attached hereto. Bids were opened on December 27, 2002 with two (2) bids and one (1) HGAC quote being received, to wit: BIDDER BID PRICE EXT. WARRANTY TOTAL ~!~rx :. ~:i:! :;:. i ii i:: ~$ 50: Knapp Chevrolet $52,435 $2,085 $54,520 Houston, TX ($100 Deductible) A simila'r vehicle (truck only) was purchased by the Utility Operations Department in October 2002 from Philpott (HGAC) for $47,232. Knapp Chevrolet took six (6) material exceptions to the specifications whereas Philpott took none. Philpott did not quote a price for the vehicle warranty on their HGAC quote. The Public Works, Equipment Services and Purchasing staff have determined that the bid by Philpott Motors of Nederland, Texas is the lowest and best bid and to the best advantage of the City. BUDGET/FISCAL EFFECT: Funding for the purchase of this vehicle was approved by the City Council as part of the FY2003 Equipment Replacement Fund No. 625, Account 625-1801-531.93-04 in the amount of $58,000.
