RECOMMENDATION:
We recommend the City Council authorize the purchase of Fire Department Bunker Coats and Trousers
from Dooley Tackaberry Inc. of Houston, Texas in an amount estimated to be $28,820 for the Fire
Department.
BACKGROUND:
The purchase of bunker coats and trousers is necessary to replace worn out clothing. This equipment is
of utmost importance in providing safety to personnel during fire fighting operations and related
activities. This equipment is inspected and replaced on an as needed basis.
The Purchasing Department advertised for bids on November 24, 2002 and December 1, 2002 in the Port
Arthur News. Bid packets were mailed to seven (7) vendors with two (2) vendors responding. The bid
packets were opened on December 11, 2002 with the following results:

There is a $65.30 (6%) per set cost increase over FY 2001-2002. It is estimated that 25 sets of Bunker
Gear will be replaced this year.
BUDGET/FISCAL EFFECT:
The Bunker Coats and Trousers were approved in the Fire Department 2002-2003 fiscal year budget in
Uniform and Bunker Gear Account No. 001-1121-522.26-00

SUMMARY:
We recommend the City Council authorize the purchase of Fire Department Bunker Coats and Trousers
from Dooley Tackaberry Inc. of Houston, Texas in an amount estimated to be $28,820. The price of
$28,820 is the lowest and best responsive bid.
