RECOMMENDATION:
We recommend that the City Council approve the purchase of a 60KW Katolight Model SNL60FRT
natural gas generator set (with a two-year warranty), automatic transfer switch, and installation from
Emergency Power Service of Beaumont, Texas in the amount of $17,947 for Fire Station # 8.
BACKGROUND:
The Fire Department is installing clean burning natural gas emergency electrical generators at all of the
City's fire stations. This will satisfy an ISO requirement for electrical backup for the radio system.
During a disaster Fire Station 98 will be the gathering point for ali emergency operations and assistance
in this district (Fire, Police, & EMS). It is essential for Fire Station #8 to be self-supporting.
The Purchasing Department advertised for bids in the Port Arthur News on November 24, 2002 and
December 1, 2002. Bid packets were sent to seventeen (17) vendors. Two (2) bids were received and
opened on December 11, 2002 with the following responses:

BUDGET/FISCAL EFFECT:
Funds were approved by the City Council in the Fire FY 2002-2003 Equipment Accounts # 001-1121-
522.92-00 in the amount of $19,500 for the Emergency Standby generator set.

SUMMARY:
We recommend that the City Council approve the purchase of a 60KW Katolight Model SNL60FRT
natural gas generator set (with a two-year warranty), automatic transfer switch, and installation from
Emergency Power Service of Beaumont, Texas in the amount of $17,947 for Fire Station # 8. The price of
$17,947 is the best and lowest responsive bid.
