NO. 12058 - TRANSIT GRANT APPLICATION 01/16/03 RECOMMENDATION: I recommend that Proposed Resolution No. 12058 be approved. This Resolution would authorize filing an application with the Federal Transit Administration for funding for the Transit Department. BACKGROUND: The Federal Transit Administration makes funding available each year for transit capital and operating expenses. These funds are provided at a rate of a local share of 50% for operating expenses and 20% for capital and planning expenses. This years application includes funding for: 1. Operating Assistance $672,199 2. Purchase ora replacement service track $32,000 3. Planning $40,000 BUDGETARY/FISCAL EFFECT: The City will be required to provide a local share of cost in the amount of $690,199. This local share is provided t~om the General Fund and the State of Texas Public Transit Fund. The amount available from the Public Transit Fund will be determined by the current session of the Legislature. STAFFING/EMPLOYEE EFFECT: None SUMMARY: I recommend that Proposed Resolution No. 12058 be approved. 1 P.R. No. 12058 01/17/03 DLW RESOLUTION NO. A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING FILING AN APPLICATION WITH THE FEDERAL TRANSIT ADMINISTRATION FOR FUNDING FOR PORT ARTHUR TRANSIT WHEREAS, thc Secretary of Transportation is authorized to make grants for mass transportation projects; and, WHEREAS, the contract for financial assistance will impose certain obligations upon the applicant, including the provision of the local share of project costs in the amount of $690,199; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ARTHUR: THAT the Director of Planning is hereby authorized to file electronically an application as proposed in the Program of Projects, a copy of which is attached hereto as Exhibit "A". THAT the City Attorney is authorized to provide such Certifications and Assurances as the Federal Transit Administration may require in connection with the application or project; including, but not limited to, one-time assurances. THAT the Director of Planning is hereby authorized to accept said grant agreement. THAT a copy of the caption of this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the City Council. Any person requesting a public hearing must do so in writing and must state the reason for requesting such hearing.
