Attached is P. R. 12056 approving the expenditure by the City of Port Arthur of $5,000 to sponsor the BOSS Conference. PAEDC has committed $50,000.00 to the planning and development of this business conference. We are requesting an additional $5,000.00 Sponsorship fi.om the City of Port Arthur. The purpose of the meeting is to give you an updated report of the progress we have made in planning the conference. In addition, we would like for you to serve on the PABOSS Executive Steering Committee. If your schedule does not allow you to attend the meetings, you can send a representative to the January Steering Committee Meeting. The International focus is making significant headway in the planning progress. Because the Port of Port Arthur has the unique distinction of being the busiest two-berth port in the word, this will make a difference in promoting our international trade focus. Small purchase spot bids will also be made available where the business owner will have an opportunity to walk away from the conference with a contract in his/her pocket as well as be exposed to many other contracts and business oppommities. It is expected that over $150,000 in small purchases will be awarded to the low bidders at the conference. In addition, your support and participation for this government and small business conference will help the City of Port Arthur identify areas of concern for small businesses in their need to do business with you as well as other issues adversely impacting their ability to progress in their day-to-day operations.
