Owens, Deputy Chief of Polic~N~ RE: Update on SBA Loans Regarding Dec. 3~ 2002 Flood Event On today's date, Mr. Atkins with the Small Business Administration (SBA) Regional Office in Ft. Worth was contacted for an update regarding flood damage claims from Pt. Arthur residents due to the Dec. 3rd, 2002 flood event. According to Atkins, as of January 24th , 2003, (81) homeowners and (2) businesses within our city have filed flood damage claims. This does not include numerous inquiries. As previously stated, Pt. Arthur citizens can continue to make inquiries or file claims until February 24, 2003 by calling toll free: i (800) 366-6303 This number will connect citizens with the Regional SBA office in Ft. Worth. This information was communicated to all area news media (newspaper, radio and TV) by SBA representatives. I have included the initial SBA Loan Status Report submitted to Mayor Ortiz, dated Jan. 10, 2003 and copies of other applicable paperwork sent to Mayor Ortiz designating Jefferson County as eligible to apply for Physical Disaster and low interest Economic Injury Disaster Loans due to the fact that it is a declared county of a recent disaster declaration. *Attachments C: Chief Col. I spoke with Mr. Kevin Jones, Small Business Administration (SBA) Team Leader regarding the status of claims filed by Port Arthur citizens in reference to the Dec. 3rd, 2002 flood event. As ofgam today, his Team has filed (67) claims since they set up an office at Fire Station No. 1 on Dec. 28, ~002. This does not include numerous inquires. At 6pm today they will conclude their office set up, however, citizens can continue to make inquiries or file claims until Feb. 24, 2002 by calling toll free: 1 (800) 366-6803. This number will connect citizens with the regional SBA office in Fort Worth. Mr. Jones advised all area news media (newspaper, radio and TV) received this information to ensure all citizens xvere notified. Mr. Jones advised that he was very pleased with the hospitality and set-up at Fire Station No. I and appreciated the cooperation from our city emergency management officials. He advised should we need to contact him; we should call the above toll free number.
