A RESOLUTION ADOPTING A CEREMONIAL.. STREET
NAMING POLICY FOR THff CITY OF PORT ARTHUR
WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 87-220, the City Council
adopted a street renaming policy, attached hereto as Exhibit "A";
and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to also adopt a ceremonial.
street naming policy wherein a street or streets may also have a
ceremonial name, which will not require the change of addresses of
the adjacent residences or businesses and will provide the City an
opportunity to honor persons or events.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF PORT ARTHUR:
Section 1. That the facts and opinions in the preamble
are true and correct.
Section 2. That the City Council adopts the following
policy as it pertains to the ceremonial naming of streets:
1. The Request. for a ceremonial name shall be made in
writing to the City Manager. The request shall-
include the following:
a. Name. of the requester (individual, group,
organization, etc.)
b. Existing street name.
c. Proposed ceremonial street name.
d. Significance of the proposed ceremonial name.
2. The proposed ceremonial street name shall:
a. have historical or other special significance
(if named for. a person, they must be
deceased).
b. not have the same or similar name of any other
City street or facility.
c. the proposed ceremonial name shall be a
complete street or logical street segment.
3. Fifty percent (500) of the owners of the businesses __I
adjacent to the area must sign. a petition or a
request for the proposed ceremonial name.
4. Fifty percent (50°s) of the owners of the residences
adjacent to the area must sign a petition or a
request for the proposed ceremonial name.
5. A public hearing shall be held to receive input
from all interested parties prior to action being
taken on the ceremonial name request by City
Council. '
6. The requesting party or parties will assume the
cost of labor and materials for the installation of
the new ceremonial street marker or markers, as
well as the cost for the advertising of the public
hearing.
7. The ceremonial name will have no legal affect on
the actual name of the street.
Section 3.
That a copy of the caption of this Resolution
be spread upon the Minutes of the City Council.
READ, ADOPTED AND APPROVED on this day of
A.D., 2009, at a Meeting of the City Council of
the City of Port Arthur, by the following vote: AYES:
