ORDINANCE NO.
AN ORDINANCE DESIGNATING THE EARLY VOTING
BALLOT BOARD, DEPUTY EARLY VOTING CLERKS,
AND THE ELECTION DAY PRESIDING JUDGES,
ALTERNATE PRESIDING JUDGES AND CLERKS, FOR
THE MAY 9, 2009 GENERAL AND SPECIAL ELECTION
WHEREAS,, per Ordinance No. 09-10, the (:ity Council ordered a General Election to be held
on May 9, 2009, for the purpose of electing Councilmembers for District 5 and District 6.
WHEREAS,, per Ordinance No. 09-15, the City Council ordered a Special Election to be held on
May 9, 2009, to propose a measure to use Section 4A (Type A) funding for Section 4B (Type B)
projects.
WHEREAS,, pursuant to Article III, Section 4, of the City Charter, ~~All elections shall be in
accordance with 'the laws of the State of Texas rE~gulating the holding of municipal elections and in
accordance with the ordinances adopted by the Council for the conduct of elections, The Council
shall appoint the Election Judges and other Election Officials and shall provide for their
compensation in the city elections, and for all other expenses of holding such election."
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY CIF PORT
ARTHUR, TEXAS:
Section 1. That the facts and opinions in the preamble are true and correct.
Section 2. That the City Council herein appoints the Early Voting Ballot Board, the Deputy
Early 'Voting Clerks, and the Election Day Presiding Judges, the Alternate Presiding Judges and
Clerks for the Mary 9, 2009 General and Special Election as shown in Exhibit's "A", "B"and '~C".
Section 3. That if neither the Presiding, Alternate Judge or Election Day Clerk(s) can serve,
and there is no time for the Presiding Officer of the City to fill the vacancy in the normal manner, an
emergency appointment may be made for the May 9, 2009 General and Special Election by the City
Secretary as provided by Section 32.007 of the Election Code.
Section 4. That this being an Ordinance not requiring publication, it shall be in full 1Force and
effect from and after its passage.
Section 5. That a copy of the caption of i:his Ordinance be spread upon the Minutes of the
City Council.
READ, ADOPTED AND APPROVED on this 10th day of March, A.D. 2009, at a Meeting of
the City Council of the City of Port Arthur, Texas, by the following vote:
