Houston Audubon Society 8.005 Acre Nature Reserve (Sanctuary)
Lake Arthur Drive
The City Council has requested a general report on the subject nature reserve. The area m
question is neither a City Park, nor city property but was deeded to the Houston Audubon
Society as part of a mitigated wetlands program. The City Council has previously
authorized the payment of $2.500.00 per year to the Audubon Society for the sancmaw's
maintenance.
Transmitted hereby is a copy of the letter from Ms. Winnie Burkett. Sanctuaries
Manager. Houston Audubon Society. Wherein she indicates availability to meet the week
of March 31-April 4, to discuss the future management of the sanctuary
She will be scheduled to address the City Council on the sanctuary at the April 1. 2003
City Council meeting.
Please advise should you need additional information.

re: Houston Audubon Society Port Arthur Sanctuary
Dear Mr Thigpen,
The Houston Audubon Society appreciates Port Arthur's help with the maintenance of
our 8 acre sanctuary on Port Arthur Drive. Funds received from Port Arth~ x~511 be used for
mowtrtg and removal of invasive exotics from the sanctuary.
A representative of the Houston Audubon Society will be happy to meet with you the
week of March 31-April 4 to discuss the future management of th~s sanctuary.
