We recommend the City Council authorize the Replacement of a 2000A Main Breaker at the Main WWTP by Allied Electrical Contractors of Beaumont, Inc. in the amount of $16,414. BACKGROUND Hurricane Ike caused damage to various pieces of electrical equipment at the Main WWTP. Our Phase Failure Protection System was replaced a couple of months after the storm at a cost of $4111. Upon the next few phase failures we experienced from Entergy, we discovered that the shunt trip on our main circuit breaker was also burned up and beyond repair. This equipment failure, when coupled with an Entergy phase failure, has already damaged several small motors and various other electrical components. Stoneburner-Verret referred us to Mi;<I Electric of Beaumont, and we also contacted Allied Electric, who brought out the Square-D (original manufacturer) representative. Both of these contractors and the equipment manufacturer agreed that the existing unit was beyond repair, as parts were no longer available. We contacted two more potential vendors (Beaumont & Orange), and neither responded. The quotes/bids submitted for a new breakerwith installation are shown below: Bidder Bid Amount M&I Electric Industries $18,847.50 ($17,347.50 parts+$1,500 installation) Beaumont, TX Allied Electrical Contractors $16,414.00 Beaumont, TX BUDGET/FISCAL EFFECT Funds for this work are available in account no. 410-1256-532.42-00. STAFFINGIEMPLOYEE EFFECT City staff will have to shut down the plant for a short period to complete this work.
