REGARDING REMOVAL OF WATR DISTRIBUTION LINE Ciry of <,n till? rtltu�r 7erus www.PortArthurTx.gov INTEROFFICE MEMORANDUM Date: December 21, 2021 To: The Honorable Mayor and City Council Through: Ronald Burton, City Manager From: Calvin Matthews, Water Utilities Director RF.: PR 22307—Terminate Contract with Schaumberg & Polk, Inc. regarding Removal of Water Distribution Line Introduction: Resolution 21-289 authorized a contract with Schaumberg & Polk, Inc. for the removal of the water distribution line crossing the Intercoastal Canal in order for the United States Army Corps of Engineers to increase the depth of the Intercoastal Canal to forty-eight (48) feet. This resolution (21-289) is no longer necessary since this project falls under the contractual jurisdiction of Arceneaux, Wilson, & Cole, LLC with their contract with Drainage District 7. The intent of this Agenda Item is to terminate the contract with Schaumberg& Polk, Inc. Background: Resolution 21-289 authorized a contract with Schaumberg & Polk, Inc. for the removal of the water distribution line crossing the Intercoastal Canal in order for the United States Army Corps of Engineers to increase the depth of the Intercoastal Canal to forty-eight(48) feet. Budget Impact: The budget impact of this resolution releases $97,000.00 to be available for other Capital Improvement Projects. Recommendation: It is recommended that City Council terminate the contract with Schaumberg & Polk, Inc. of Beaumont,Texas for the investigation,engineering design,and demolition management services of the water distribution line crossing the Intercoastal Canal,as discussed and/or outlined above. A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO TERMINATE THE CONTRACT WITH SCHAUMBURG & POLK, INC. OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS AS IT PERTAINS TO THE INVESTIGATION, ENGINEERING DESIGN, AND DEMOLITION OF AN ABANDONED WATER DISTRIBUTION LINE. WHEREAS, On July 20, 2021, the City council approved Resolution 21-289, which awarded the contract for the investigation, engineering design, and demolition management services of the water distribution line crossing the Intercoastal Canal to Schaumburg & Polk, Inc. of Beaumont, Texas; and, WHEREAS, the services that would be provided by Schaumburg & Polk, Inc. are no longer necessary due to another engineering firm managing a larger project that included this scope of work. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ARTHUR: THAT,the facts and opinion in the preamble are true and correct: and, THAT, the contract between the City of Port Arthur and Schaumburg & Polk, Inc. of Beaumont, Texas is hereby terminated; and, THAT a copy of the caption of this resolution be spread upon the minutes of the City Council.
