NATIONAL CHALLENGES CONT’D… NATIONAL CHALLENGES CONT’D… CITY OF PORT ARTHUR CHALLENGES GARBAGE TRUCKS -7 new trucks purchased in 2018 after Harvey and will be paid off by 2023 (Remaining Balance is $2,655,437.90) -5 older trucks GARBAGE TRUCK ROUTES CURRENT STATUS OF GARBAGE TRUCKS CITY OF PORT ARTHUR CHALLENGES HEAVY TRASH TRUCKS -8 big new trucks purchased in 2018 after Harvey. The Legal Department is working on the Contract. Truck will be delivered the week of January 18, 2022. 3)Secured a contract with Republic Services to provide 2 garbage trucks. An under $25,000 contract initiated this service on January 10, 2022. Staff is working on securing a 6-month contract. CITY OF PORT ARTHUR SOLUTIONS CONT’D… 4)Changed the garbage collection schedule to a 6 days a week schedule to makeup for days lost as a result of broken trucks. 5)City is in the process of modifying the Landfill TCEQ Permit to allow the landfill to operate 7 days a week and on Holidays. 6)Bids are out to hire a company that can provide 4 heavy trash trucks on an as needed basis and within 24 hours of the request. Bids will open February 2, 2022. CITY OF PORT ARTHUR SOLUTIONS CONT’D… 7)New heavy trash truck was ordered and is scheduled to be delivered before end of January 2022. 8)Staff is negotiating an under $25,000 contract with Piney Woods Sanitation for the Sabine Pass and Pleasure Island garbage collection. 9)Extend the garbage collection operating hours. 10)Continue to monitor the operation daily and modify schedules, routes, operation hours, etc. as needed.
