RECOMMENDATION
The Fire Department recommends that the City Council authorize the Fire Chief to apply for the
2009 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.
BACKGROUND
The 2009 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program is available to assist Fire Department in
obtaining essential equipment. This grant is 80% Federal funded with 20% local match. The
application period for the grant ends May 20, 2009. The Fire Department will apply for
hazazdous material response equipment. The Fire Department operates and maintains a
hazazdous materials response vehicle and has increased training for this team.
BUDGET/FISCAL EFFECT
There is no money budgeted in the FY 2008/2009 Budget for this project. This project could be
budgeted in the upcoming FY 2009/20010 budget yeaz. The local match for this project is
estimated to be $20,632.
STAFFING/EMPLOYEE EFFECT
None
SUMMARY
The Fire Department recommends that the City Council authorize the Fire Chief to apply for the
2009 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.

RESOLIITION NO.
A RESOLIITION AIITHORIZING THE FIRR CHIEF TO APPLY
FOR THH 2009 ASSISTANCE TO FIREFIGHTERS GRANT
PROGRAM
WHEREAS, the Fire Department seeks permission to apply
for the 2009 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program to
assist the Fire Department in obtaining needed equipment;
and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Port Arthur
finds it to be in the best interest on the citizens of Port
Arthur to authorize application for the grant; and
WHEREAS, the Fire Chief received notification that
funds will be available for the 2009 Assistance to
Firefighters Grant Program and the Grant must be submitted
by May 20, 2009; and
WHERHA3, the grant will be used to purchase hazardous
materials response equipment; and
WHEREAS, the total estimated project cost is $103,160
with the federal share being 80~ or $82,528 and the local
share is 20~ or $20,632.
NOW THHREFORE, BH IT RESOLVED BY THH CITY COIINCIL OF
THE CITY OF PORT ARTHIIR:
Section 1. That the facts and opinions in the
preamble are true and correct.
Section 2. That the Fire Chief is authorized to apply
for the 2009 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program and
to execute such other documents as necessary to apply for
the grant.
Section 3. That the grant will be used to purchase
hazardous materials response equipment.
Section 4. That the total estimated cost of the
project is $103,160, with the federal share estimated at
800 or $82,528, and the local share estimated at 20°s or
$20,632.
Section 5. That a copy of the caption of this
resolution shall be spread upon the Minutes of the City
Council.
