No. 5332 amending the election order for the May 3, 2003 General Election by declaring additional voting to be conducted on Saturday, April 26, 2003, by deleting Taft Elementary School as a May 3, 2003 polling place and by adding County Precinct No. 80 (Port Arthur Independent School District) in order to accommodate the voter (s) in that area. DELETING TAFT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AS A POLLING PLACE ON MAY 3. 2003 AND ADDING PRECINCT 80 (PORT ARTHUR INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT~ TO THE LIST OF COUNTY ELECTION PRECINCTS FOR JOINT ELECTIONS. WHEREAS, pursuant to Sec. 85.006 (d) of the Election Code, at least 15 registered voters of Jefferson County/Political Subdivision may submit a petition with the early voting clerk at least '~2 hours before the Saturday or Sunday early voting is to begin; and WHEREAS, a request was submitted on April 4, 2003. from eligible voters (Exhibit "A") requesting that additional early voting be provided on Saturday, April 26. 2003. from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the following early voting polling places listed previously in the Amended Order and Notice of a General Election: City Hall: Port Arthur Public Library; Lucky 7; Markel Basket #45 and Alford's Supermarket: and WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 03-013 declared unopposed candidate Ronald "Ronnie" Hughes Thompson duly elected for District 6 and the election for District 6 Councilmemher as canceled; and WHEREAS, the Tat~ Elementary School polling location accommodates voters in all or a portion of County Election Precinct 71 and Orange County Precinct 28 that votes for City of Port Arthur City Council candidates only; and WHEREAS, with the cancellation of the election for the candidate from District 6, the Taft Elementary School polling location is no longer needed for the General Election on May 3, 2003;and WHEREAS. Jefferson County Election Precinct 8(~ shall be added to the list of county precincts for the May 3. 2003 General Election in order ~o accommodate the area west of highway 69 and north of highway 365, that falls in the Port Arthur Independent School District for the P.A.I.S.D. Board of rrustee Election. NOW THEREFORE. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY cOUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ARTHUR: Section 1. That the facts and opinions in the preamble are true and correct. Section 2. That Saturday, April 26, 2003. shall be added as an additional early voting day at City Hall. the Port Arthur Public Library, Lucky 7. Market Basket #45 and Alford's Supermarket as noted in (Exhibit "B" ;. Section 3. That Taft Elementary School in County Election Precinct 71 and Orange County Precinct 28 shall be closed as a polling location on General Election Day May 3. 2003 as noted in (Exhibit "C"/. Section 4. That County Election Precinct 80 shall be added to accommodate the voter/s) in that vicinity who residets) in the Port Arthur Independent School District to vote in the May 3, 2003 General Election.
