McMahen, P.E., Director of Public Works P.R. #12162 April 21, ~2003 RECOMM EN DAI~ON ~t is recommended that the City Council approve Proposed Resolution No. 12162, awarding a bid for planing and/or texturing of pavement to Forde Construction Company, znc. of Houston, Texas at a unit cost of $4,000 per day. Funding is available in FY 2003 Budget, Account No. 00:1-1203-531.36/51/86/86-01. BACKGROUND The Cib/of Port Arthur advertised for bids on March 30, 2003 and Apdl 6, 2003 with two (2) bids received on April 16, 2003 (bidder list attached). Forde Construction Company, ThC. of Houston, Texas was the Iow bidder at $4,000 per day. This b/pe of service will allow the Public Works Streets Division to be more versatile in the type of street projects we can do, mainly the removal of old asphalt surfaces in order to put new ones down. We have used Forde Construction on two (2) one-day jobs in the past, those being 32ncl Street from Highway 347 to Lombardy Drive and more recently Savannah Avenue from Highway 87 to KCS Railroad. The price for each was $4,000 per day and took one (1) day each. BUDGETARY/FTSCAL EFFECT Funding is available in the FY 2003 Public Works-Street DiVision Account Nos. 001-1203- 53~.36-51-86-01. STAFFI'NG/EMPLOYEE EFFECT City staff will work along with the contractor to haul off material that is removed, and to sweep the surface prior to placing the new material.
