BACKGROUND This is the smallest of three centrifuges located at our Main Wastewater Treatment Plant, and is used for drying WWTP solids in preparation for disposal at our landfill. These units operate by rotating solids in a cylindrical bowl at high speed to create 2000x-3000x the normal force of gravity. Originally purchased in the mid-1990's at approximately $132,000, this type unit requires a lot of expensive maintenance and repair throughout its service life due to the extreme duty conditions in which it operates. This unit recently began excessive vibration, a sign that it is out of balance and in need of dismantling, repair, and re-building. During this type of maintenance, bearings and up to 250 tiles in the unit will also be replaced and tested to meet factory tolerances. It also comes with a 1-year warranty on parts and workmanship. The unit was removed by B & P Process Equipment and Systems for assessment and determination of scope of service/repairs. We used B & P's provided scope of repairs for other repair shops to submit quotes. We were only able to receive the following two (2) quotes below: Bidder Bid B8P Process Equipment and Systems 516,820. Houston, TX Cen-Tex Centrifuge Services & Engineering $17,500. Conroe, TX BUDGET/FISCAL EFFECT Funds for this work are budgeted and available in account no. 410-1256-532.42-00. STAFFING/EMPLOYEE EFFECT City staff will assist with the reinstallation and start-up of this unit. SUMMARY The bid from 68P Process Equipment and Systems meets the requirements of the specifications and is therefore recommended for approval in the amount of $16,820. Provide one (1) service tech at customer's plant to reinstall rotating assembly. Additional Requirements for Bid Acceptance: 1) Repair shop must be ISO 9001-2000 certified and have water/wastewater in the scope of registration. 2) Repair shop must provide five (5) references of successful decanter repairs and service. 3) Provide a one (1) year warranty on parts and workmanship. 4) All freight cost to be included in the bid. 5) Repair shop to be within a 200 miles of the City of Port Arthur.
