Re: Report on House Moving Ordinance
Currently, the 2000 International Building Code, which we adopted in January 2003, defines
how moved structures shall be handled. In Section 3407 (Moved Structures), it states,"
structures moved into or within the jurisdiction shall comply with the provisions of this code for
new structures." It does not spell out the application process that is found in the 1997
Standard Building Code.
Under the 1997 Standard Code, the application process requirement is delineated. It
establishes a cdteda for denial to applicants. A time line is established for which an owner
has to have the structure in habitable condition. (90) days. It allows for exceptions, and it sets
the parameters for allowing those exceptions, if an owner fails to comply with the
requirements under this Code. The Building Inspections Division has the authority to have the
structure tagged by the Demotion Division, and to proceed with the condemnation of the
structure.
We are currently following the guidelines established under the 1997 Standard Building
Code. Under our current edition of the City's Code of Ordinance there is no Ordinance that
addresses House Moving.
