HomeMy WebLinkAbout(4)HOUSE MOVING ORDINANCEMemo To: Steve Fitzgibbons, City Manager From:Lawrence Baker, Director of Community Services Date: 05106/03 Re: Report on House Moving Ordinance Currently, the 2000 International Building Code, which we adopted in January 2003, defines how moved structures shall be handled. In Section 3407 (Moved Structures), it states," structures moved into or within the jurisdiction shall comply with the provisions of this code for new structures." It does not spell out the application process that is found in the 1997 Standard Building Code. Under the 1997 Standard Code, the application process requirement is delineated. It establishes a cdteda for denial to applicants. A time line is established for which an owner has to have the structure in habitable condition. (90) days. It allows for exceptions, and it sets the parameters for allowing those exceptions, if an owner fails to comply with the requirements under this Code. The Building Inspections Division has the authority to have the structure tagged by the Demotion Division, and to proceed with the condemnation of the structure. We are currently following the guidelines established under the 1997 Standard Building Code. Under our current edition of the City's Code of Ordinance there is no Ordinance that addresses House Moving. ® Page I
