HomeMy WebLinkAbout(1) PUBLIC HEARING ON REDISTRICTING PROPOSALS NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING According to the new 2020 Census data, the City Council single member districts are not of sufficiently equal population and must be redrawn in order to comply with the "one-person, one-vote" (equal population)principle established by the U.S. Constitution. Therefore, the Port Arthur City Council is considering new boundaries for its councilmember districts and wants to hear from you. Tell us what you think about the preliminary councilmember district plan at the public hearing described below: PUBLIC HEARING ON REDISTRICTING PROPOSALS Time: 10:00 A.M. Date: July 19, 2022 Address: 444 4th St., City Council Chambers, Fifth Floor, City Hall, Port Arthur, Texas 77640 The preliminary plan for the city council districts will be available at the hearing and is also available for public inspection during normal business hours at the Port Arthur Public Library located at 4615 9th Ave., Port Arthur, Texas 77642, Monday through Friday from now until the date of the public hearing. A copy of the plan is also available in the City Secretary's Office, located at 444 4th St., Fourth Floor, City Hall, Port Arthur, Texas 77640. In addition, you need to be aware that the City Council has adopted Guidelines for public participation. The Guidelines, among other things, require that comments be submitted in writing even if you make them orally at the hearing; all written comments are due by the close of the hearing. The Guidelines may be found at www.portarthurtx.gov. Any plans that are proposed must conform to the redistricting Criteria adopted by the City Council,which may also be found at www.portarthurtx.gov You may also call the office of the City Attorney at (409) 983-8125 if you have any questions.
