PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT
MEMORANDUM:
TO'- Steve Fitzgibbons, City Manager
FROM: Leslie E. HcMahen, P.E., Director of Public Works
DATE: May 8, 2003
SUB3ECT: Charges to Dispose of Land Clearing and Other Green Waste
Per Section 86-79 of the Code of Ordinances, all waste entering the City's landfill is
charged for at the rate of $6.50/cubic yard, whether compacted or non-compacted
and regardless of what type cell it goes into or is otherwise handled. The only
exception is for companies with large-volume disposal contracts.
ff the City Council desires to do so, the charges for land clearing material (stumps,
mots, etc.) and normal green waste (branches, limbs and trunks cut in small pieces,
etc.) that is brought to the landfill by others or picked up as a special service by the
City could be reduced to $4.00/cubic yard (loose measure). This matedal is usually
chipped and not buried, if the pieces fit into our tub grinder. Appropriate sections of
Chapter 86 would need to be changed to reflect this new rate and to define what it
covers.
