Authorization to Apply for Family Planning grant funds
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council approve P.R. No. 15432, authorizing the City of Port
Arthur to submit a proposal to the Texas Department of State Health Services Family and
Community Health Services division for family planning grant funds in the amount of $766,98.
BACKGROUND
The Texas Department of State Health Services is seeking proposals for eligible entities to apply
for Title V, X and XX Family Planning Services grant funds. This grant will allow for family
planning and preventive health services to both women and men, and also well children services
to children.
BUDGETARY AND FISCAL EFFECT
The total request is for $766,985.
STAFFING EFFECT
If awarded, the grant will fund four (4) full-time and 1 part-time employees (1.5 FTE -nurse
practitioners, 1-registered nurse, an administrative clerk, and a phlebotomist).
SUMMARY
It is recommended that the City Council approve P.R. No. 15432, authorizing the City of Port
Arthur to submit a proposal to the Texas Department of State Health Services Family and
Community Health Services division for family planning grant funds in the amount of $766,985.

RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF PORT ARTHUR
TO SUBMIT A PROPOSAL TO THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF
STATE HEALTH SERVICES FAMILY AND COMMUNITY HEALTH
SERVICES DIVISION FOR A FAMILY PLANNING SERVICES GRANT
FOR APPROXIMATELY $766,985
WHEREAS, the Texas Department of State Health Services Family and
Community Health Services division is seeking grant proposals from eligible entities to
apply for Title V, X and XX Family Planning services; and,
WHEREAS, the health department intends to submit a proposal for a family
planning services grant in the amount of approximately $766,985 for the FY 2010 initial
gant period.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF PORT ARTHUR:
Section I. That, the facts and opinions in the preamble are true and correct;
Section 2. That, the City Council of the City of Port Arthur hereby authorizes
the Health Department to apply for the Title V, X and XX Family Planning funds in the
amount of $766,985 from the Texas Department of State Health Services Family and
Community Health Services Division.
Section 3. That, a copy of the caption of this Resolution be spread upon the
Minutes of the City Council.
