HomeMy WebLinkAbout(P2) 2030 Census City Council Presentation for 9132022 The U.S. Census Bureau Welcomes Your Ideas for a Better 2030 Census! Dr. Albert Thigpen Dr. Delena King Ms. Cheryl Gibbs 1 Providing Support to the Public What are the public’s needs when responding to the census, especially historically undercounted populations? How can we support people as they respond—whether online, by phone, by mail, in English or in another language? How can we increase access for people with disabilities? Ready to provide feedback? You have until November 15 to submit your comments. You can send your comments in two ways. Email us at DCMD.2030.Research@census.gov. Please include “FRN Response” in the subject line. Go online to the Federal Register website. When submitting your comments, please be as specific as you can. If your comment refers to one of the topics above, let us know in your response which topic you’re addressing.   As you prepare your suggestions, you can refer to the 2020 Census Operational Plan and Detailed Operational Plans to learn more about how we designed and implemented the 2020 Census. Your comments will be public. All comments received are part of the public record, and we will summarize and share the input we receive publicly. Keep in mind that if you voluntarily include personally identifiable information such as names and addresses, it may be publicly accessible. Do not submit confidential personal or business information or otherwise sensitive or protected information. 2 “It is very important to receive public input early in the decade and to hear from as many people and communities as possible.”  Director Robert L. Santos The Census Bureau particularly wants to hear your recommendations on the following five topics: 3 CENSUS TOPIC 1- Outreach Reaching and motivating everyone to respond to the census. How can we reach everyone in America and motivate them to respond to the census? How can we reach historically undercounted populations (such as the Hispanic or Latino population, the Black or African American population, the American Indian or Alaska Native population living on a reservation, people who reported being of Some Other Race, and young children)? 4 CENSUS TOPIC 2- Technology What technology could make responding to the census more user-friendly? If we need to collect data in person, how can we use technology to do that effectively? 5 CENSUS TOPIC 3- Data Sources The 2020 Census used administrative records (such as data from federal and state governments), third-party sources (data from commercial sources), internal data, and publicly available information to enhance operational efficiency and data quality. What other data sources, or methods of using them, could increase operational efficiency and effectiveness and improve data quality? 6 CENSUS TOPIC 4- Contacting Respondents How can we tailor our contact strategies to encourage households to respond to the census on their own? What tools and messages should we use to invite people to respond, and how often should we reach out to each household? 7 CENSUS TOPIC 5- Supporting Respondents How can we support people as they respond—whether online, by phone, by mail, in English or in another language? How can we increase access for people with disabilities? 8 Ready to provide feedback? Email us at DCMD.2030.Research@census.gov. Please include “FRN Response” in the subject line.
