No. 7106—Designating a School Zone along 9th Avenue a d Procter Street adjacent to the Tekoa Academy Introduction: Proposed Ordinance No. 7106 seeks City Council's approval to designate a school zone along 9th Avenue and Procter Street adjacent to the Tekoa Academy. Background: Mayor Pro Tem Holmes contacted the Police and Public Works Departments regarding a new school zone for the Tekoa Academy,which is housed in the Breath of Life Ministry Church. We concur with the request and need for a school zone. Budget Impact: Funding for the necessary signage is available in the Public Works Electrical Division's Other Supplies—Material Account, account number 001-21-057-5214-00-70-000. Recommendation: It is recommended that the City Council approve P.O. 7106 designating a school zone along 9th Avenue and Procter Street adjacent to the Tekoa Academy. AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ARTHUR, TEXAS, DESIGNATING A SCHOOL ZONE ALONG 9TH AVENUE AND PROCTER STREET ADJACENT TO THE TEKOA ACADEMY AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE AND PUBLICATION. WHEREAS, Mayor Pro Tern Holmes has requested a school zone along 9th Avenue and Procter Street for the Tekoa Academy,which is housed in the Breath of Life Ministries Church;and, WHEREAS,the City Council deems it in the best interest to control traffic adjacent to the Tekoa Academy for the protection of the students by the addition of traffic control measures;now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ARTHUR: THAT,the facts and opinions in the preamble are true and correct; and, THAT, a school zone be designated along 9th Avenue and Procter Street with a maximum speed of 20 miles per hour during the hours of 7:30 a.m.to 9:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.to 4:30 p.m. on school days, and that the appropriate signage be placed at the limits of this school zone; and, THAT, the Director of Public Works shall provide signage as to notify motorists thereof; and, THAT,this being an Ordinance which requires publication,its caption shall be published at least one(1)time within ten(10)days after final passage hereof in the official newspaper of the City of Port Arthur, and this Ordinance shall take effect immediately after the date of publication; and, THAT, a copy of the caption of this ordinance be spread upon the minutes of the City Council.
