Biography
Hargie Faye Jacobs Savoy is the President of the MLK Support Group of Southeast Texas. She was born and raised in Port Arthur, Texas and has dedicated her life to serving her community.
She is a devoted Christian, beloved wife, loving mother and Grandmother.
Hargie was born to Morris and Eunice Jacobs on Lincoln Avenue. She attended Lincoln School from kindergarten to 12th grade. Upon completion of high school, Hargie married Jewel Savoy
Sr. and together they had 5 children (Jewel Faye, Jaqueline, Madeline, Jewel Savoy, Jr. and Terry).
Hargie has received several honors for her service in the community (i.e., from Delta Sigma Theta, Kappa Alpha Psi, NAACP Beaumont, NAACP Port Arthur, YWCA Beaumont - Justice Award,
SCL Lifetime Achievement Award). She has served on several boards throughout Southeast Texas, including St. Mary, YMCA, and Texas Art Museum (TAMS) Boards.
In 1986 Hargie Faye Savoy met Coretta Scott King and shortly attended 10 workshops in Atlanta, GA, on non-violence and social change. Coretta Scott King requested that she start a MLK
Support Group in Southeast Texas which is still honoring people in the community for their service to the city and social change.
