RE: Proposed Resolution No. 22877—Microsoft Azure Cloud Computing Services
Introduction:
The intent of this Agenda Item is to seek the City Council's authorization for the City Manager
to renew the three-year Microsoft Azure Cloud Computing Services, for disaster recovery and
business continuity.
Background:
Microsoft Azure is a set of cloud computing services that allows for off-site servers, storage of
data, and replication of critical servers without the expense of a secondary infrastructure
(buildings, servers, routers, switches, utilities, etc.). The Government Cloud Service
Agreement is for a period of three years at an annual cost of$30,699.00.
Budget Impact:
Microsoft Azure Monetary Commitment - US Gov solution is offered through SHI (DIR
vendor). The government cloud service agreement is for a minimum of three years, with an
annual commitment of$30,699.00. Funds are available in account 001-09-023-5450-00-10-
000-
Recommendation:
It is recommended that City Council authorize the City Manager to approve the renewal of the
Microsoft Azure Cloud Computing Services, through SHI for an annual cost of$30,699.00.

RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO RENEW
MICROSOFT AZURE GOVERNMENT CLOUD COMPUTING SERVICES
THROUGH SHI FOR A PERIOD OF THREE YEARS AT AN ANNUAL
AMOUNT OF $30,699.00. FUNDS FOR YEAR ONE AVAILABLE IN
ACCOUNT NO. 001-09-023-5450-00-10-000-.
WHEREAS, the City of Port Arthur seeks to protect data and system assets from disaster
and to plan for business continuity in the event of a system failure or a disaster; and
WHEREAS, Microsoft Azure government cloud solution is a set of cloud computing
services that allows for a business continuity plan that includes disaster recovery without the
expense of a secondary infrastructure (buildings, servers, routers, switches, utilities, etc.); and
WHEREAS, Microsoft offers a three-year Azure Government Cloud Service Agreement
through Department of Information Resources vendor SHI, in the annual amount of$30,699.00;
and
WHEREAS,the quote is attached as "Exhibit A"; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Port Arthur finds it to be in the best interest
of the citizens of Port Arthur to purchase Microsoft Azure Government Cloud Computing Services
for a period of three years.
NOW THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF PORT ARTHUR:
Section 1. That the facts and opinions in the preamble are true and correct.
Section 2. That, the City Council hereby authorizes the City Manager to purchase
Microsoft Azure Government Cloud Services in the annual amount of$30,699.00.
Section3. That a copy of the caption of this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of
the City Council.
