A RESOLUTION REQUESTING RATIFICATION OF THE PURCHASE OF A VACANT TRACT OF LAND AT THE JEFFERSON COUNTY DELINQUENT TAX SALE ("SHERIFF'S SALE") AS PART OF THE PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT OF THE NEW FIRE STATION NO. 3 IN THE AMOUNT OF $13,000.00. FUNDING AVAILABLE IN CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT ACCOUNT NO. 307-21-409-8512-00-10-000, PROJECT BU0013-OTH WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution 22-283, the City Council authorized the purchase of 1.467 acres tract of land located at the northeast corner of Ray Avenue and 61'Street from the Port Arthur Independent School District for the proposed development of a new Fire Station No. 3 to serve the Port Acres area; and WHEREAS,it was later discovered that the adjacent property,(i.e.,PID 58767),was seized by Jefferson County for delinquent taxes and inquiries were made to purchase the property to expand the development of the newly proposed fire station; and WHEREAS,the County's Tax Office notified the City that the property would be placed on the April 4, 2023 Sheriffs Sale and the City Manager authorized staff to proceed with the land acquisition as delineated in Exhibit"A"; and WHEREAS, it is deemed appropriate for Council to ratify the vacant land purchase in the total amount not to exceed $13,000.00 from Jefferson County. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ARTHUR: Section 1. That the facts and opinions in the preamble are true and correct. Section 2. That the City Council hereby ratifies the purchase of the vacant tract of land known as Property ID 58767, for the total not to exceed amount of $13,000.00, as part of the proposed development of the new Fire Station No. 3 in the Port Acres area. Section 3. That a copy of the caption of this Resolution shall be spread upon the Minutes of the City Council.
