“It Takes Time to Turn a Big Ship” – Donald Frank
The Pleasure Island Department has over
500 acres of land. The lowest grass cutting
bid was $140,000.00 per year. A decision
was made to purchase equipment and staff
agreed to take on the responsibility of
maintaining nearly 200 acres of land instead
of entering into a costly contract.
●The initial purchase was two Zero Turns
($21,678).
●Next was a trailer to transport the mowers
($3,400).
●Two more Zero Turns were purchased
($24,600).
●Lastly, another trailer was purchased ($3,400).
●Total amount spent on equipment is $53,078.
●Total savings after just 1 year $86,922.

The RV Park originally had coin operated
washers and dryers and was in a contract
where they received a small percentage of the
revenue. A decision was made to end the
contract and purchase our own washers and
dryers in order to collect 100% of the revenue.
