RESOLUTION NUMBER
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER AND THE FIRE
CHIEF TO MAKE APPLICATION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND
SECURITY'S, FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY FOR
THE ASSISTANCE TO FIREFIGHTERS GRANT PROGRAM IN THE
AMOUNT UP TO $750,000. THE GRANT APPLICATION WILL BE
SUBMITTED TO THE FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY
IN EMMITSBURG, MARYLAND.
WHEREAS, the Department of Homeland Security's, Federal Emergency
Management Agency under the United States Fire Administration has $750 million
available to improve the safety and health of the nation's fire service and the
communities they serve; and,
WHEREAS, the City will submit to the Federal Emergency Management
Agency (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program 2003 an application for
grant funds for Fire Operations and Firefighter Safety Program category of the grant
in an amount not more than $750,000 as prescribed by the rules of the grant; and,
WHEREAS, the grant provides for a 30% match to funds requested for cities
over 50,000 in population not to exceed $750,000 to any one entity; and,
WHEREAS, the application requires Standard Form-424, General Questions,
Category Specific Questions, a Narrative, and completion of the application on the
Internet for submittal to FEMA; Now, Therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT
ARTHUR:
THAT the City Manager and the Fire Chief is hereby authorized to make
application to the Federal Emergency Management Agency for the funds up to
$750,000.
THAT a copy of the caption of this Resolution be spread upon the minutes of
the City Council.
