Background: Wright National Flood Insurance is rated A (Excellent) for its financial strength. The City of Port Arthur has insured its properties with Wright National Flood Insurance for over ten years. The City of Port Arthur has insurance coverage on various locations throughout the City through the only flood insurance program provided, Wright National Flood Insurance. The sole focus for the City of Port Arthur is to provide the proper and necessary coverage for properties throughout the City. The flood coverage for locations on Pleasure Island (Storage Building A, Storage B and Boathouse and Storage, Pump House) lapsed due to a new application not being processed within the allotted period. The request for payment was processed through the Human Resources Department, processed within Accounting; however, the payments were rejected due to the lack of a new application for the properties. The insurance company received the payments for the properties after the 30-day grace period. It should be noted, the request for new applications was received with the refund payments. With, new applications for the properties were submitted on August 29, 2023, via email to the broker; however, the City will not receive the grandfathered rates we previously were paying. The new rates will be advised once the applications have been approved by the broker. Budgetary/Fiscal Effect: The funds will be deposited into account number 612-11-025-5410-00-00-000, Insurance. A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT REFUNDS FOR LAPSED FLOOD INSURANCE POLICIES FOR VARIOUS LOCATIONS ON PLEASURE ISLAND FROM WRIGHT NATIONAL FLOOD INSURANCE Fund Account No. 612-11-025-5410-00-00-000 $16,868.00 Liability Insurance Fund WHEREAS, the flood insurance for various locations throughout the City of Port Arthur expired on May 15th and 16th, respectively, as shown in Exhibit "A"; and, WHEREAS, new applications for the flood insurance properties with the lapsed coverage were completed and submitted for approval through Wright National Flood Insurance Program; and, WHEREAS, the policies will be effective for one (1)year of new expiration date upon approval; and, WHEREAS, the payments for the lapsed properties were returned to the City of Port Arthur for deposit. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ARTHUR, TEXAS: Section 1. That, the facts and opinions in the preamble are true and correct. Section 2. That the City Manager is hereby authorized to accept the refunds payments from Wright National Flood Insurance Program for the lapsed flood insurance in the amount of $16,868.00. Section 3.
