Background: The existing forklift at the main WWTP, a TAKEUCHI T-40 is in extremely bad shape. We have requested numerous mechanics/service technicians to come out and evaluate the equipment for repairs. The last time we spent $8000.00 getting it to operate the repairs only lasted a month and it was broke down with the same issues as before. The loader is a necessary piece of equipment for the plant operations. The Bobcat of Beaumont, Texas via BuyBoard Contract #685-22, provided the Bobcat L65 Compact Wheel Loader quote for total amount of$72,309.36. Budget Impact: The total budget impact is $72,309.36. Funding is available in Capital Equipment Account No. 625-40-000-8523-00-00-000. Recommendation: It is recommended that the City Council approve PR No. 23493, authorizing the City Manager to purchase the equipment as discussed/outlined above. A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO PURCHASE A BOBCAT L65 COMPACT WHEEL LOADER FROM BOBCAT OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS, THROUGH BUYBOARD CONTRACT NO. 685-22 FOR THE WASTEWATER DIVISION IN THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF $72,309.36. FUNDS ARE AVAILABLE IN CAPITAL EQUIPMENT ACCOUNT NO. 625-40-000-8523- 00-00-000,EQUIPMENT. WHEREAS, the Water Utilities Department routinely uses various equipment in the construction, repair, operation, and maintenance activities of the Wastewater Treatment Division; and, WHEREAS, the existing forklift at the main WWTP, unit Takeuchi T-40 is in extremely bad shape and been serviced and repaired several times, with the last service repair only lasting a month; and, WHEREAS, Chapter 271 of the Texas Government Code allows a city, by resolution of its governing body, to participate in cooperative purchasing programs, such as Texas Buyboard, as an alternative to the formal bid process;and, WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 02-341, the City of Port Arthur entered into an interlocal agreement for cooperative purchasing with the Buyboard Cooperative Purchasing Program ("Buyboard"); and, WHEREAS, City staff has solicited a quote via Buyboard Equipment Contract No. 685- 22 for a Bobcat L65 Compact Wheel Loader, as delineated in our Purchasing Policy;and, WHEREAS, Bobcat of Beaumont, Beaumont Texas will provide the equipment as listed on the quote attached hereto as Exhibit "A" in the total amount of $72,309.36, as it meets our specifications.
