Duriso, Chief of Police RE: P.R. 23603 —Apply for the Flint Hills- Helping Heroes Grant Introduction: The intent of this Agenda Item is to seek the City Council's approval for the Police Department to apply for the Flint Hills-Helping Heroes Grant. Background: Flint Hills Resources has been supporting local emergency responders for decades and began the Helping Heroes Grant program in 2012. The program provides grants for training,education, equipment, and emergency notification needs to Texas emergency responders. The grants range from$1,000-$10,000 and are determined by a team on specific applicant needs. The application process is open for FY 24-25. Budget Impact: There is no cash match for this program. Recommendation: It is recommended that City Council approve the City Manager's decision for the Police Department to apply for the Flint Hills-Helping Heroes Grant. A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO APPLY FOR THE LOCAL FLINT HILLS- HELPING HEROES GRANT WITH NO CASH MATCH REQUIREMENT. WHEREAS, Flint Hills has been supporting local emergency responders for decades and began their Helping Heroes Grant program in 2012; and WHEREAS, the program provides grants specifically for training, education, equipment, and emergency notification needs; and WHEREAS, the grants range from $1, 000- $10, 000 and are determined by a team for specific applicant needs; and WHEREAS, the application process is open for applications for the Fiscal Year 2024-2025; and WHEREAS, there is no cash match requirement under this program. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ARTHUR: Section 1 . That the facts and opinions in the preamble are true and correct . Section 2 . That the City Council and the City of Port Arthur hereby authorizes the City Manager to apply for the Flint Hills-Helping Heroes Grant . Section 3. That a copy of the Resolution shall be spread upon the Minutes of the City Council . Flint Hills Resources is a proud supporter of our local fire departments and emergency responders. Their service is vital to the protection of both life and property and we are grateful for their dedication and bravery to help keep our communities safe. Flint Hills Resources has been supporting local emergency responders for decades and formalized the Helping Heroes program in 2012. This program provides grants for training,education,equipment,and emergency notification needs of Texas fire departments and emergency responders.Since starting the program, more than $1 million has been awarded to emergency response departments in Texas. About our Grant Cycle Grants awarded range from $1,000 to$10,000 and are determined by a team of internal safety professionals based on the specific needs submitted by applicants. We pause the Helping Heroes grant application review process on October 31st.
