AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 18-33 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES BY ADDING SUBSECTION (B) AS IT PERTAINS TO PERMIT SCHEDULE AS A RESULT OF THE APRIL 10, 2024, WEATHER EVENT AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, the City's homes and businesses incurred severe damage as a result of an EF-2 Tornado that devastated Port Arthur on April 10, 2024; and, WHEREAS, the Mayor of the City of Port Arthur signed a Declaration of Disaster on April 15, 2024, because of the imminent threat of suffering widespread or severe damage, injury, or loss of life or property resulting from tornado damages and conditions that threaten Port Arthur, Jefferson County, Texas. WHEREAS, there is a need to amend Section 18-33 by adding Subsection (b) as it pertains to the permit schedule and providing an effective date; and, NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ARTHUR: Section 1. That the facts and opinions in the preamble are true and correct. Section 2. That Section 18-33 of the Code of Ordinances is hereby amended, adding Subsection (b) to state the following: "(b) Waiver of fees due to disaster declaration. Until October 15, 2024, no building permit fees will be charged for residential and commercial damages caused by the April 10, 2024, EF-2 Tornado." Section 3. That a copy of the caption of this Ordinance shall be spread upon the Minutes of the City Council. Section 4. That is being an Ordinance amending and Ordinance which does not carry a penalty, and does not require publication, it shall take effect immediately from and after its passage. P.O.
