Tornadic Event 4/10/24
On April 10th, at 5:26am the
National Weather Service Issued a
Tornado Warning for Jefferson
County.
During the time frame a between
5am –9am total of 39 (911) CFS
and another 123 calls were made
in reference to storm related
activities and or damage to
residence/debris in roadway.

The National Weather Service
confirmed that the preliminary
survey from its damage
assessment team on site indicates
an EF-2 tornado with wind speeds
of about 120 mph is what
impacted the city of Port Arthur.

Our assessment team/Planning
and Development began
conducting an assessment of the
city where the results concluded
that the most heavily impacted
area was between Shreveport
and 19th St. to Woodworth Blvd/
Rosehill Park.

Assessment of heavily impacted area
revealed:
106 Residences damaged
6 Commercial Businesses
2500 Citizens w/o power
Waterline damaged /repair $50,000
Debris Removal /cost at min. $50,000
with activation of contract to assist
with debris removal

Disaster Declaration issued by
Gov. Abbott 4/15/24
Mayor Bartie issued Disaster
Declaration 4/15/24
City and County still calculating or
damage/expenditures to see if we
met the threshold.
1.3 Million Jefferson County
52.6 Million State of Texas
with declarations issued this
possibly opens up opportunities for
assistance.
