RECOMMENDATION
We recommend the City Council authorize the purchase of two Heavy Utility Trucks from H-GAC
through Philpott Motor Company, of Nederland, TX, in the total amount of $78,770.24 to replace worn
out units.
BACKGROUND
These trucks will replace two worn out 1996 model s/<-ton utility trucks with over 265,000 (#1240) and
275,000 (#1242) miles of service, which are/were used in the mechanical/electrical maintenance of our
lift stations, pump stations, and treatment plants. Vehicle #1242 has already been auctioned with un-
repairable engine and transmission damage, while #1240 is still in service with serious transmission
problems. One replacement truck is the current model of the same truck, at a cost of $33,002.86. The
second is an upgrade to a 1-ton utility truck w/lifting crane, at $45,767.38. We currently have to rent a
crane on a regular basis to perform heavy lifting at lift stations and treatment plants. Wherever
possible, we arrange for the assistance of a field crew with a trackhoe, taking them away from their
work site.
BUDGET/FISCAL EFFECT
Funds are available in the Equipment Replacement Fund account #625-1801-532.93-01.
STAFFING/EMPLOYEE EFFECT
Purchase of these trucks will allow continuity of O&M tasks required.
SUMMARY
