A RESOLUTION PERTAINING TO THE NOMINATION FOR THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE ORANGE COUNTY APPRAISAL DISTRICT WHEREAS, the terms of the current Board members of the Orange County Appraisal District serve a two (2) year term beginning on January 1 of even-numbered years, as delineated in the letter from Orange County, attached hereto as Exhibit "A"; and, WHEREAS, 2010 is the beginning of the next two year term; and WHEREAS, there are five (5) positions on the Board; and WHEREAS, the City is entitled to submit a name or names for nomination to the Orange County Appraisal District Board of Directors; and WHEREAS, the City Council may nominate potential board members to fill one of five (5) candidates and WHEREAS, the City Council may nominate up to five (5) candidates by assigning all or a portion of the votes to each nominee: and WHEREAS, the City Council can cast all of its 62 votes for one candidate or distribute them among other candidates; and WHEREAS, the procedure for nominations to the Orange County Appraisal District Board of Directors must be done by Resolution; and WHEREAS, the deadline for submitting a name is October 15; and z.pr1553t WHEREAS, the City Council deems it in the best interests of the citizens of Port Arthur to submit a name for nomination to the Board of Directors for the Orange County Appraisal District. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ARTHUR: Section 1. That the facts and opinions in the preamble are true and correct. Section 2. That the City Secretary shall submit the name for nomination to the Orange County Appraisal District, as delineated herein, with the applicable votes and shall send a certified copy of this resolution to the District no later than October 15, as follows: CANDIDATE: VOTES: Lynda Gunstream 13 Hughie Allen 13 Laura Floyd 12 Nancy Gray Ashworth 12 Virginia Fawcett 12 Section 3. That a copy of the caption of this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the City Council. SEP 2 3 200 ~~NANCE QFegrsT° Section 6.03 of the Property Tax Code requires the Boazd of Directors of the appraisal district serve a two yeaz term beginning on January 1 of even-numbered years. 2010 is the beginning of the next two yeaz term of the Orange County Appraisal District's boazd and the election process must take place over the next few months. I have enclosed a timeline as defined by the tax code for the election of the board of directors. As you will see, the next step in the process is for each taxing unit to nominate potential board members to fill one of five positions. Each unit may nominate up to five candidates by assigning all or a portion of the entities votes to each nominee. Nominations must be made by resolution of the unit's managing boazd. I have included a sample resolution for your use. Nominations must be returned to this office by October 15, 2009.
