Havens, Interim Fire Chief ---- RE: Proposed Resolution 24006 for Port Arthur Fire Department Acceptance of the Motiva First Responder Grant. Nature of the request: The intent of this agenda item is to seek City Council approval for authorization of the Port Arthur Fire Department to accept the Motiva First Responder Grant in the amount of$7,500.00 for the acquisition and outfitting of an emergency response rehab cooling trailer. Background The Port Arthur Fire Department applied for the Motiva First Responder Grant in August of 2024, seeking funding to assist in the acquisition and outfitting of an emergency response rehab cooling trailer. The City Council approved the request for application on August 13, 2024,with the approval of PR 23864. On Friday, October 18, 2024, Port Arthur Fire Department was made aware of the grant application reward in the amount of$7,500. Budget Considerations: There will be no fiscal budgetary impact. The grant funds received will be deposited in Port Arthur Contributions/Donations account 001-19-000-4730-00-00-000 for the acquisition and outfitting of an emergency response rehab cooling trailer. Recommendations: The Port Arthur Fire Department recommends approval of P.R. 24006 to accept the Motiva First Responder Grant in the amount of$7,500.00 as outlined above. WHEREAS, the Port Arthur Fire Department applied for the 2024 Motiva First Responder Grant program in August of 2024 "Exhibit A"; and WHEREAS, the Port Arthur Fire Department received correspondence from Motiva on October 18, 2024 that a grant award of $7, 500 . 00 was to be awarded to the Port Arthur Fire Department "Exhibit B; and WHEREAS, the Port Arthur Fire Department received a check for $7, 500 . 00 from the Motiva First Responder Grant Program on November 7, 2024 in the amount of $7, 500 . 00 "Exhibit C", for the acquisition and outfitting of an emergency response rehab cooling trailer; and NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ARTHUR: Section 1 . WHEREAS, the Motiva First Responder Grant Program was developed to assist emergency response in communities that host Motiva facilities; and WHEREAS, the program awards a safety grant up to $10, 000.00 for training, equipment, professional or safety education programs to organizations invited to apply; and WHEREAS, there is no cash match requirement for the grant.
